How you can help with spelling at home: The intention of this program is to look at spelling and word patterns in a different way. Students will practice their word sorts in class and learn the word patterns in class. Spelling test will be every 2 weeks. AT HOME you can spend 10-15 minute, 3 to 4 times a week practicing their spelling list. Picking one activity a night to do. Here is a sample of what your week might look like: week 1 Monday (new list comes home) - cut and sort words Tuesday - sort words and then pick 10 to do rainbow writing Wednesday - speed sort and choose 10 words to put in ABC order Thursday - sort words and do practice spelling test with 15 words week 2 Monday - blind sort Tuesday - speed sort and do scribble spelling (learned in class) Wednesday - speed sort and pick 10 words to write 4 ways (crayon, pencil, pen and marker - learned in class) Thursday (day before spelling test) - do a practice test with all words Spelling City - online game to practice words.

Try a SCRIBBLE sort! Have your child draw a loopy picture and in each space pick 1 word to practice as many times as possible. A fun way to mix art and spelling.
